Launch of Kartarpur corridor

The importance being accorded by India to the early opening of the Kartarpurcorridor can be viewed from the fact that even amidst heightened tensions on account of February 14 gruesome attack by Pakistan sponsored terrorists, it participated in the meeting with Pakistan on Indian side of AttariWagah border on March 14 so that work on it was expeditiously done. If the joint statement issued after the first meeting between the two countries is any indicator , the modalities to finalise for the proposed corridor linking was round the corner.
In the meantime, India has stressed upon a visa- free access to the shrine and suggested that at least 5000 pilgrims be allowed to visit the Holy shrine every day. India desires and has accordingly conveyed to Pakistan to minimise encumbrances of avoidable documents and procedures so that the pilgrims were not unnecessary put to any difficulties. Let it be seen what the response of Pakistan is on the subject which would be known in the next meeting scheduled to take place on April 2 at Wagah on the Pakistan side of the border. It is expected that special border crossing for pilgrims would open before 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev in November.
