VRINDAVAN, (UP) August, 17: The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas through Indian Oil’s Mathura Refinery today joined hands to set -up India’s largest Sewage Treatment Plant at Mathura that will purify sewage from Mathura and Vrindavan and the treated water will be used by the Refinery for its industrial use.
Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister, Road Transport, & Highways and Shipping, in the presence of Uma Bharati, Minister for Water Resource, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Hema Malini, MP, Mathura laid foundation for the State-of-the -Art Sewage Treatment Plant which will be set-up at a cost of Rs 40 crore. Yamuna will be gaining doubly by this effort. The treated effluent water which was so far being discharged in Yamuna will not be discharged there and will be entirely used by the Refinery. Moreover the quantity of water which was being drawn by the refinery for processing purpose will not be required. B Ashok, Chairman, Indian Oil and S M Vaidya, GM I/C, Mathura Refinery were also present on the occasion.
In his address, Union Minister, Road Transport, & Highways and Shipping, Nitin Gadkari said that this initiative is a praiseworthy step towards realizing the vision of Prime Minister to make holy Ganga and Yamuna clean.
Uma Bharati Minister for Water Resource, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation thanked Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for this initiative for setting up of an Effluent Treatment
Plant and using the treated water for use in Indian Oil’s Mathura Refinery.
Addressing the large gathering, Dharmendra Pradhan, also appreciated Indian Oil’s role in setting up of the Effluent Treatment Plant at an estimated cost of Rs. 40 crore in Mathura and joining hands with Ministry of Water Resources. He said that the efforts will also be made to convert the solid waste cleaned from polluted Yamuna water into energy for industrial and agricultural use. Pradhan assured that the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas will support the Namami Gange Project by all means. He also explained the modalities of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and said that the scheme would impact the lives of women from BPL families in a major way by reducing the drudgery of cooking with polluting fuels and go a long way in reducing indoor pollution and other health related problems being faced by them.
He said that MoPNG is committed towards 100% LPG penetration in Mathura district; for both BPL & APL families. He said that in the last 100 days around 50 lac LPG connections under PMUY scheme have already been distributed.
