LAWDA irks High Court

Sir,
The Lakes  & Water Ways Development Authority (LAWWDA) is a white elephant which has  squeezed State exchequer from last several decades. Billions of rupees have been provided to LAWWDA in shape of grants by State and  Central Governments and financial institutions like world bank in the past. The money has hardly been utilized by this authority. The Sewerage Treatment Palnts  (STPs) established around the Dal Lake are hardly functional and all the silt and sludge is dumped by LAWWDA vehicles near foreshore  road from last several years. The officials of this organization have amassed huge wealth and several cases are pending before the State Vigilance Organisation. Irony is that LAWWDA has even failed to undertake scientific waste management around the Dal Lake and solid waste rules of 2016 are openly violated by the LAWWDA. Tenders for waste management are not prepared keeping waste management rules into consideration fecal matter and solid waste generated from houseboats and mohallas located inside Dal Lake directly goes into Dal Lake and no system is in place to treat this kind of solid and liquid waste. Pollution Control Board (PCB) and Tourism Department are also a mute sepctator to all this. We hope newly inducted Tourism Minister Tassaduq Mufti who seems to be very much concerned about Dal Lake and environment will look into it and address the same within a fixed time period.
Yours etc…
