JAMMU, Oct 29: Strongly opposing the move of State Government with regard to shifting of Jammu High Court Complex from Janipur to Raika in Bahu Conservation Reserve and also shifting of registration of documents of land, about 350 lawyers including six former High Court Bar Association presidents have requested the sitting president, J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu to urgently call General House Meeting of the Bar, to discuss the issues and chalk out the course of action.
Taking serious note of the Government move of shifting Judicial complex from Janipur to Raika-Bahu near Sidhra Bye Pass Road, the High Court Bar members maintained that after great struggle and sacrifices by the Jammu Bar, the present Court Complex has been created at Janipur. The Bar had to launch long drawn agitation for bringing all courts within one complex and also building lawyers’ chambers, canteen and other infrastructure at Janipur.
They pointed out that the location of Janipur Court complex is environment friendly and moreover, there is sufficient land available for expansion of Judicial infrastructure there. The road connectivity to the complex can be improved ad Govt must take some initiative in this regard.
While referring to the issue reported in the Press, the senior High Court lawyers said that the proposal of the Government is to shift the courts from Janipur to across Tawi river in Raika-Bahu forests. But that area is reserve forest and considered as lungs of Jammu City. Traffic jams of trucks on Kunjwani- Narwal-Sidhra National Highway is generally horrifying. The advocates and litigants will suffer a lot.
They further pointed out that there will be wastage of public money worth thousands of crores of rupees. The present infrastructure at Janipur will go waste. Another large forest would be destroyed with the felling of thousands of green trees, exposing Jammu people to environmental pollution.
They said J&K High Court Bar Association members have strongly opposed the `ill-conceived’ proposal of shifting Courts from the present location at Janipur to Raika-Bahu and forwarded requisition to the Jammu High Court Bar president to call immediate urgent meeting of the General House and discuss both the issues and chalk out next course of action.
