SRINAGAR, Oct 4: Chairman Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra today directed that a House Committee should be constituted, which would probe the violations that have taken place in the Master Plans in the residential colonies of Jammu and Srinagar cities.
The Chairman was dissatisfied with the reply of Minister for Cooperatives, Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma that a committee has already been constituted by the Government to enquire the violations three years back. Dr. Manohar while replying on behalf of Housing and Urban Development Minister to the question posed by Balwant Rai Kundal said that the setting up of the House Committee would hamper the probe being carried out at the departmental level.
“You need not to worry about the exercise to be carried out by the members of the House Committee. Both the House Committee and the departmental enquiry would go side by side and there would be no confusion. Since I reside in the Jammu city I have noted that violations have taken place in the Master Plan and this needs to be checked as well as corrected,” Mr Malhotra said.
The Chairman said that the Government should take serious note of the encroachments that have taken place in Jammu and Srinagar cities. He said action should be taken against the encroachers so that this acts as a deterrent for the future. He said Government should ensure that the people respect the building plans so that there are no violations in the Master Plans.
Kundal was also dissatisfied with the reply of the Minister and said that despite the lapse of three years the enquiry committee is yet to submit its report. The direction to set up the House Committee was seconded by Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy of National Conference.
