LC Chairman reviews preparation for upcoming Budget Session

JAMMU, Dec 7: Chairman of Legislative Council Haji Anayat Ali today reviewed the preparation of the Council Secretariat for the upcoming Budget Session of the legislature.
The Chairman reviewed the functioning of different House Committees/DRCSs and discussed issues of accommodation, security and protocol of members.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Public Works, Abdul Rehman Veeri, Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar, Legislators Bashir Ahmad Veeri, Firdous Ahmad Tak, Jugal Kishore, Ashok Khajuria, Mohammad Khursheed Alam, Ramesh Arora, Showkat Ahmad Ganai, Dr. Shahnaz Ganai and Surinder Ambardar attended the meeting
Secretary Council, Additional Secretary and other staff members were also present in the meeting.
The meeting discussed security of the LC members and asked the Government to deploy adequate security personnel for them.
The Council members also highlighted various issues and sought parity in protocol and facilities viz a-viz members of Assembly.
MLC Showkat Ganie raised the issue of security during the visit of members to their respective areas and demanded bullet proof vehicles for all legislators.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, A R Veeri assured the meeting that they will take up the issue with concerned quarters. He said the concern of the members will be looked into and worked out with appropriate action.
Cutting across the party lines, the members asked the Government to frame a policy which would clearly specify the number of security personnel to be deployed with MLCs and accommodation type they are entitled to.
Veeri said that Government is committed to provide adequate facilities to the legislators. He further informed that each legislator would be provided laptop before the start of the session.
He also assured the officials that staff strength will be increased in Legislative Council for its smooth functioning.
