LC Panel for fixing responsibility

JAMMU, Dec 11: The Committee on Government Assurances of Legislative Council today directed the Higher Education authorities to takeup  immediate repairs of the newly constructed building of Government Degree College (GDC), R.S. Pura. It also asked the department  to take up the matter with the Planning and Development Department for early release of funds for the purpose.
The Committee, which met under the chairmanship of MLC Dharambir Singh Oberoi here today, discussed and examined various Government Assurances including  the issue of   cracks developed in the newly constructed GDC, R.S. Pura.
The Committee members, G.N. Monga, Syed Asgar Ali and Dr. Shehnaz Ganai also attended the meeting and suggested for fixing responsibility against the officials of executing agency.
Meanwhile, the panel called  the then and present Managing Director  of executing agency Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC) to  appear before the panel and explain their  position.
Earlier, the Secretary Higher Education, Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmad briefed the Committee about the Action Taken Reports with regard to Government Assurances pertaining to the department given on the floor of the House from time to time. He informed that a Committee of departmental officers was constituted to enquire into the matter.
Among others, Additional Secretary Council Mohammad Maqbool Bhat, Director Colleges Dr.Kawosa, Additional Secretary Higher Education Masarat Islam and other officers of Higher Education and Council Secretariat attended the meeting.
