JAMMU, Dec 9: The Privilege Committee of Legislative Council has summoned former Army chief Gen VK Singh to appear before it on January 9 in connection with the allegations of payoffs to Jammu and Kashmir Ministers by the Army leveled by him during an interview to a national news channel.
Official sources told the Excelsior that the Privilege Committee of the Council headed by Congress MLC Jugal Kishore Sharma today issued summons to Gen Singh to appear before it in the Legislative Council complex on January 9 to explain the payoffs allegations, which the former Army chief had subsequently denied in his response to the notice issued to him by Legislative Assembly Speaker Mubarak Gul.
The Privilege Committee that met here today has exactly given one month time to Gen Singh to appear before it as the summons to him were issued today in which he has been asked to appear before the Committee on January 9.
The privilege motion against Gen Singh was moved by MLCs Ajay Sadhotra, Devender Singh Rana and Khalid Najib Suhrawardhy, all NC MLCs in last session of the Council in Srinagar, the summer capital of the State taking cognizance of his allegations during a television interview in which he had claimed that Army was paying money to politicians in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Council members including Mr Rana, Ravinder Kumar Sharma, Ghulam Nabi Monga, Ali Mohammad Dar and Showkat Hussain Ganai besides Law Department Secretary Mohammad Ashraf Mir also attended today’s meeting of the Privilege Committee.
