KATHUA, Aug 8: Several leaders at the all-party protest here demanded that the region be granted the Statehood soon.
They also called for unity among the people to save the status of the region as a State and their democratic rights, which according to them, are challenged by the ruling dispensation.
The protest under the banner of All Party United Front saw participation from all the leaders and workers of different parties including Congress, NC, Shiv Sena (UBT), PDP, S Akali Dal, AAP, CPI(ML), CPI, AIPA, HRS and other parties.
Addressing the gathering, APUM convenor Manish Sahni, State President, Shiv Sena (UBT), and ID Khajuria, in their joint addresses, claimed that people of Jammu and Kashmir are feeling cheated.
They said despite passage of five years since the special status of the region was tinkered with, people have not been given back the promised status of a State.
They also criticized the amendment in the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, promising extra powers to the LG.
“All the promises of the BJP Government like peace, development, employment have proven to be hollow to date,” the duo said.
Narendra Gupta, General Secretary Organiser Congress raised the issue of power cuts and irregularities in bills.
Along with this, Sheikh Abdul Rehman, former MP, Sunny Kant Chib (HRC), Narendra Singh Khalsa (S Akali Dal), Subash Mehta (CPML), Vinod Sharma (VP Congress), Comrade Hariom (CPM), Chaudhary Balkar Singh, Advocate Sunil Gupta, Pankaj Gupta (District President Congress), Kishore Bakshi (NC), Kajal Thakur, Santosh Khajuria, Rohini Sharma, Chaudhary Balkar Singh, Pratap Singh expressed their views and vowed to continue the movement until full Statehood is restored to Jammu and Kashmir.
Several leaders and workers of various parties including Sanjeev Kohli, Vikas Bakshi, Raj Singh, Mangu Ram, Rajesh Khajuria were also present on the occasion.
