SAMBA, June 4: At least four persons were killed while nine others including an 18-month girl child were injured when a tralla turned turtle at main chowk Samba before hitting the pedestrians, other vehicles, rehris and shops along the National Highway.
According to a police spokesman, tonight at about 9 pm one tralla on its way from Kathua to Jammu got out of control near Main Chowk Samba and hit several vehicles, pedestrians, rehris and then turned turtle on the edge of the road damaging several shops. He said two four-wheelers were also crushed under the tralla.
As per the preliminary reports, at least four persons were killed two of them on the spot while nine others including a female baby got injured in the mishap. The injured were shifted to District Hospital Samba from where eight of them were referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu while the dead bodies of the deceased, who identities are yet to be ascertained, were shifted to mortuary of District Hospital Samba.
Those shifted to GMCH Jammu have been identified as Tilak Raj (42) son of Sadhu Ram, Raman (32) son of Bodh Raj, resident of Kheli Mandi, (Samba), Billa (40) son of Ratan, resident of Balori, Hem Raj (30) son of Prem Nath, resident of Ramnagar, Ashwani (40) son of Dharam, resident of Ward No 1 (Samba), Raman (32), Ward No 8 (Samba) and Simran (18 months) daughter of Raman.
On getting information, senior officers of the police as well as district administration including SSP Samba, Joginder Singh and DC Samba, Sheetal Nanda also reached the spot and took stock of the rescue operation, which was still undergoing till the last reports came in. MLA Samba, Dr DK Manyal also reached the accident spot and assured every possible help to the injured and kins of the deceased.
Due to the accident, vehicular traffic came to a standstill on the busy Jammu-Pathankot National highway for over one hour but was later restored.
