Lecture on ‘Maintenance and Welfare of Parents’ organised

JAMMU, Oct 17: Legal Aid Cell of Dogra Law College organised an extension lecture on the topic “Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007” , here today.
The programme started with the welcome address by Dr Darshana Sharma, Director Dogra Group of Colleges and Campus Development. The resource person Slahuddin Ahmed (Sub-Judge and Secretary DLSA, Samba) acquainted the students with the provisions on ‘Maintenance and Welfare of Parents’ and ‘Senior Citizens Act, 2007’.
He emphasized that the maintenance and welfare of parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 was enacted to provide financial security, welfare and protection for senior citizens. It requires children to provide maintenance for their parents and the Government to provide old age homes and ensure medical care for senior citizens.
He urged upon the students to undertake the responsibility of spreading awareness among the residents of neighbouring villages about the provisions of the Act.
Samar Dev Singh Charak, Secretary Dogra Educational Trust also expressed his views on the topic and emphasized that the younger generation should take care of their parents and the elderly citizens.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks, followed by the National Anthem.
