Lectures, rallies organized to observe World Sight Day

JAMMU, Oct 10: Lectures and rallies were organized across the State to observe World Sight Day.
Department of Ophthalmology, Government Medical College, Jammu observed “World Sight Day” on the theme “Get Your Eyes Tested”.
On the occasion, Principal, Government Medical College Dr Shashi Gupta was the chief guest, while Dr Dinesh Sudan, Head of the Department presided over the function. Dr Satish Gupta, senior faculty of GMCH and students were also present.
The speakers namely Dr Shagufta, Dr Deepti, Dr Tulika, Dr Amit and Dr Nalini threw light on the importance of the day. They awared the gathering about blindness and vision impairment and also highlighted the provision of eye healthcare.
Principal, Government Medical College Dr Shashi Gupta in her speech said that such kind of programmes will prove beneficial in long run.
Earlier, Dr Dinesh Sudan, Head of the Ophthalmology Department, presented the welcome address.
World Sight Day was observed by Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir, in collaboration with Shah Rasool Memorial, Welkin Educational Trust, Sopore, Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Sopore.
The rally was flagged off by Sub Divisional Magistrate, Sopore, and passed through Sopore town to mark the Day. Block Medical Officer, Sopore, Dr Syed Masood, addressed the gathering and explained the significance of the day.
Large number of local population was present on the occasion. Among other who participated were DHO, Baramulla and representatives of civil society.
Health Department Kargil organized an awareness camp on the theme “Get Your Eyes Tested” at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Baroo, in which students and faculty members participated actively.
Khadim Hussain and Nusrat Mehdi, both from Class 12th and Viqar Haider of Class 11th presented their lecture on the said topic and were adjudged as first, second and third respectively.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Shabir Hussain was the chief guest and the Principal Government Boys Higher Secondary School was the guest of honour.
Dr Asiya Noor, Eye Specialist, District Hospital highlighted the common ailment of eye.
Later, Dr Shabir Hussain flagged off a rally of the students from the school which passed through Baroo Bazaar and concluded at the school.
