Legal awareness campaign held in various districts

JAMMU, June 15: The awareness campaign ‘Ageing with Dignity’ was organized in various districts by respective District legal Services Authority (DLSA) to raise awareness among the elderly people about their legal rights.
The week-long legal awareness campaign was organized by DLSA Bhaderwah in the premises of Sub District Hospital Bhaderwah. The campaign, organized in collaboration with the civil administration, was started under the chairmanship of DLSA Chairman, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Bhaderwah Ashok Kumar Shavan.
The DLSA Bhaderwah in collaboration with different Government departments sensitize and raise awareness among the elderly people about various existing Government schemes aimed at addressing the increasing needs and different challenges faced by the senior citizens. A medical check-up camp for elderly persons was also organized at Sub District Hospital Bhaderwah.
In connection with the campaign, DLSA Poonch in collaboration with District Social Welfare Department, Poonch organized an awareness camp at Government Degree College (GDC) Poonch. The camp was organized under the chairmanship of Madan Lal (Principal District & Sessions Judge) Chairman DLSA Poonch and presided over by Secretary DLSA Poonch, Javed Rana Hakla.
The programme was aimed at sensitizing the students and youngsters regarding their duties and responsibilities towards their parents and elderly people of the society and also to apprise the senior citizens and elderly people about their legal rights so that they may live with dignity and honour. Speaker KK Kapoor highlighted the legal provisions regarding the maintenance of neglected parents. A medical camp for senior citizens was organized at GDC Poonch.
In Reasi, the campaign concluded today with a function held in Conference Hall of DC Office Reasi, where a Meditation/Yoga programme was organized for old age people. A medical camp for old aged people was held on the occasion. Debate was held by the students of different Schools on ‘Ageing with Dignity’. On the occasion, old age and widow pension pass books were distrusted among beneficiaries. The speakers threw light on the subject in detail and appealed young generation to take care of their old aged parents and other old aged people.
