POONCH, Sept 24: The District Legal Services Authority, Poonch headed by Principal District and Sessions Judge Tahir Khurshid Raina organised legal awareness programme on the topic “Alternate dispute resolution methods and fundamental rights and duties of the citizens” at Government Degree College here.
District Development Commissioner Poonch, Nisar Wani was the chief guest on the ocasion while SSP Poonch J S Johar was the guest of honour. Students of the college, professors, members of civil society, officers from administration and bar members participated in the function.
In his presidential address, Tahir Raina spoke at length on the topics chosen in the legal awareness programme. “Law is dynamic not static and has to keep pace with the needs of the time and society. ADR is innovation in the process of dispensation of justice where by speedy justice has been ensured to the litigants”, he added.
The ADR includes Lok Adalats, mediation, conciliation and arbitration. Through all these modes cases can be decided speedily even without paying court fees, Raina said, adding “Indian judiciary is the only institution which has lived up to the expectations of the country and has acted as the sentinel of the rights of the people”.
As a note of advise to college students, Raina said, “you must have dream in your life and then work hard to achieve it”.
Ahsan Malik, Special Mobile Magistrate Poonch and Manzoor Khan, Mobile Magistrate Poonch also spoke on the occasion. Advocate Sadaf Mir presented vote of thanks and Advocate Anjum Mehmood acted as the anchor of the programme.
