SRINAGAR, June 15: The Legal Metrology officials today booked eight shop-owners of mobile phones and computer accessories for flouting the norms of imported packaged commodities throughout the Valley.
During inspection of the shops, Secretary Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution along with the inspector booked two dealers at Lal Chowk for selling Chinese (Imported) mobiles at exaggerated prices. The MRP label of the mobile was Rs 1100, but the same mobile was being sold to a customer at Rs 2000 at the time of inspection. Moreover, the mobile accessories offered for sale were without mandatory declarations of MRP, thereby giving an impression that these goods can be sold to customers at the rates traders fix out of their freewill.
Three computer accessories dealers were booked for similar offences. Many imported computer accessories such as mouses, head-phones, webcams etc  were seized for not carrying the mandatory declarations. Even the dealers of re-chargeable lights were booked for not carrying the MRP.
