Legal Metrology conducts inspection

JAMMU, Sept 30: To ensure that the exact quantity of the sweets is delivered to the consumers without including the weight of the box, the officers of Legal Metrology Department today conducted inspection of the sweet sellers in the presence of representatives of the Consumer Welfare Association .
The team comprising of Amar Singh, Joint Controller Legal Metrology, Manoj Prabhakar, Deputy Controller Consumer Protection, Vikram Gour President Consumer Welfare Association gave on spot directions for marking net weight on the pre-packed boxes of sweets and to prominently display the rates fixed by the competent authority. The traders were also instructed to display in the interest of consumers the kind of edible ghee used for the preparations.
The team also came to the rescue of a consumer, who was charged more by an automobile dealer on the purchase of coolant additive. On inspection it was found that the MRP, which is mandatory declaration under law, was not marked on the commodity. Accordingly, the case was registered under law for other discrepancies on spare parts.
A car accessory seller was also booked in Gandhi Nagar under different provisions of law for selling accessory items without being marked with MRP, address of the manufacture and consumer helpline number which are required for the information of the consumers.
