Legal Metrology imposes Rs 75000 fine on surgical company

JAMMU, Jan 27: Legal Metrology, Consumer Protection Jammu has challaned M/s Bectinson Dickinson surgical company for Rs 75000 for not adhering to mandatory declarations.
As vide latest amendments issued in January 2018 in Packaged Commodities Rules 2011, the surgical medical devices which were earlier exempted have now been brought under the ambit of the department and made them mandatory to declare MRP, PKD, Net contents, manufacturer address, consumer helpline number etc, the department in a drive conducted during last six months booked several companies dealing with surgical items and medicines.
Those booked were M/S Point of Care Biomedical Private Limited, Gujarat; M/s Medicare Pharmaceuticals and Chemical Civision; M/s Bectison Dickinson Medical (s) Pvt Ltd, Singapore; M/sTynor orthotics, Mohali; M/s Coloplast India Pvt Ltd, M/s Perfect urine Pot, Ludhiana; M/shanimex Thermometer, Solan; Perfect Surgical Karnal; M/s RGI Meditech Pvt ltd, Noida; M/s Vision Parenteral Pvt Ltd, Gorakhpur; M/s LDR Associated, Gandhi Nagar; M/s Pearl Medical Aids and Equipments, Samba and others.
A total of 3 lakh fine was imposed on 11 defaulters while management of M/s Medicare Pharmaceuticals and Chemical Division and M/s Point of Care Biomedical Pvt Ltd, Gujarat were put on notice.
Meanwhile, the department also fined Rs 50000 to M/s JK White cement, Kanpur for not reducing PRP and passing on the benefit of tax reduction to the consumers due to abolishment of Lakhanpur Toll Plaza. Later, management of the company complied with the directions and reduced Rs 47 on MRP on 40 kg JK Wall Putty bag.
