SRINAGAR, Sept 17: A delegation comprising Sham Lal Choudhary, MLA Suchetgarh; Surinder Choudhary and Vikram Randhawa, MLCs, met Governor Satya Pal Malik at the Raj Bhavan here today.
The members of the delegation apprised Governor about various issues relating to the Jat community in the State and demanded OBC status for them; compensation for crops damaged due to rains and cross border firing along the International Border and the LoC right from Lakhanpur to Poonch; rehabilitation of victims of cross border firing, construction of bunkers for their safety etc.
Governor assured due consideration to their issues and discussed crucial importance of electing representatives to Urban Local Bodies and Panchayats which are the grass root level democratic institutions for ensuring public participation in the development of towns and villages.
A delegation from Ladakh led by Thupstan Chhewang, Member Parliament also met Governor and apprised him about requirement of additional funds for completion of pending projects and demanded creation of posts of Bodhi and Arabic Teachers in High and Middle Schools of Leh district, bringing EJM college Leh under State Sector, implementation of 7th Pay Commission recommendations for RMSA, SSA and RET teachers, urgent review of functioning of Kashmir University’s satellite Campus at Taru, amendment of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Act 1997 as per submission to Ladakh Affairs Department, relaxation in e-tendering process up to Rs 10 lakh for Leh district, relaxation in terms of mandatory usage of Point of Sale Devise for food grain distribution till internet services improves in the region.
The delegation demanded early release of funds under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana as per proposal submitted to National Executive Committee, construction of cold storage and marketing facilities for Agriculture and Horticulture, construction of Ice Hockey and an Open Stadium and Youth Hostel at Leh, release of funds for restoration of flood damaged infrastructure during 2014-15 and 2016-17, some issues relating to strengthening of sectors like Tourism, Handloom and Handicraft, Trade and Services and Power Development etc. and filling up of vacancies in education, health and various Government Departments.
Governor assured due consideration to all the demands projected by the delegation.
The delegation comprised among others Dorjey Motup, CEC, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh; Chering Dorjey, MLC Leh; Tsering Anddus, Gyal Wangyal, Mumtaz Hussain and T. Sangdup, Executive Councillors, LAHDC, Leh; Jamyang Namgyal, President BJP, Leh; Dr. Skalzang Dorjey, General Secretary Leh and Motup, President ALTO, Leh.
Meanwhile, Prof. Rakesh Sehgal, Director, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar, accompanied by Dr. Nisar Ahmed Mir, Registrar, NIT, met Governor and briefed him about the ongoing academic programmes at the NIT and the existing infrastructural and other gaps which need to be filled early for making the NIT a centre of excellence.
Governor emphasised the need for regular review of courses being taught at the technical institutions and their relevance to the existing trends in job markets. He complimented Prof. Sehgal for the upcoming Convocation of the NIT and wished him success in his endeavour.
Dr. Hina Shafi Bhat, Chairperson, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (North Zone), Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises also met Governor and briefed him about functioning of the KVIC in the State and particularly about the promotion and implementation of programs for the development of Khadi and other village industries in the rural areas.
Governor observed that the success of KVIC’s efforts would have the valuable consequences of generating capability and self-reliance amongst the poor contributing towards the establishment of a strong rural community. Governor noted that besides popularising Khadi the Commission should look at various other possibilities of generating employment.
