Leh admn steps up surveillance, fines lockdown violators

LEH, May 31: In order to ensure strict adherence to the lockdown directives issued by the UT/District Administration from time to time to contain the spread of COVID-19, a joint operation by a team of District Administration & Police officers headed by Additional District Magistrate Leh Dr Zahida Bano conducted extensive checking of the vulnerable areas of Leh town and its neighbouring areas.
Tehsildar Leh Gurmet Namgyal, Station House Officer Police Station Leh Inspector Sonam Angchuk, Officer In-charge PP Choglamsar SI James Dechen, and Officer In-charge PP Housing Colony SI Tsewang Stanzin checked the main market, new bus stand, Skara market, Skalzangling, Angling workshop area, Choglamsar Zampa, Sindhu Ghat, and Shey areas.
During the course of operation, 52 people were fined for not wearing masks/face cover and Rs 26000 collected as fine from these violators.
The team also conducted a random checking of the people who have been put under home quarantine as a precaution to stop the spread of the Corona Virus. All were found to be abiding by the rules. District Administration, Leh appeals for co-operation of its citizen in combating COVID-19 pandemic.
