‘Leh Filmpex’ from June 15

SRINAGAR, June 10: The Jammu and Kashmir Postal Circle is organizing a thematic Philately Exhibition titled ‘Leh Filmpex’ at Leh from June 15 to 17. The Philately Exhibition will be held as part of Ladakh International Film Festival going to be held at Leh during these dates.
In a press release issued here, John Samuel, Chief Post Master General, Jammu and Kashmir Circle said that more than 40,000 stamps from around 100 countries on films will be displayed during the exhibition. He said that this is for the first time in the country that such a large philately exhibition on films is being organized.
“As films are an effective media of communication, Department of Posts is organizing this to showcase the ‘Postage Stamps’ on films brought out by India and other countries. Leh Filmpex will display stamps on Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, Raj Kapoor, Satyajit Ray, M.G. Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan, Madhubala, Devi Kiran, Nutan, Leela Naidu, Savitri, Nargis, singers Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Hemant Kumar, Dadasaheb Phalke, Elvis Presley and a host of other film personalities from India and across the world,” said Samuel.
He said the Philately Exhibition is being organized with a view to promote Ladakh as a tourist destination all over the world. He said three special covers, two stamp booklets and 10 stamp cards will be released with a view to make the people across the globe familiar with the Ladakh region.
