After a gap of 30 years, the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) organized the religious festival of Kalachakra Initiation in which nearly 1.5 lakh devoteees from the country and 76 foreign countries had participated. The celebrations were held under the aegis of LAHDC. Before initiating the project the authorities of LAHDC and its Chief Executive Councilor had discussion with the then Chief Minister of the State who welcomed the organizing of the function hoping that it would boost tourist industry of the Ladakh region. As such a number of departments together committed 20 crore rupees. The LAHDC made year long preparations and saw to it that the function was a success.
When expenditure bills were submitted and the promised financial support was sought, surprisingly there was about turn at the level of the State Government. The Council authorities pursued the matter but nothing happened. Now that the financial year is coming to a close, the contractors are pressing hard for the money which they have invested. It is an irony that the State Government should back out at the end of the day and put the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Council in a very embarrassing siuation. A delegation from Ladakh and another from Kargil called on the Governor and apprised him of their financial and other problems. Zanskar is facing a different problem. There is water logging in a large area which is causing serious transportation problem, Governor was apprised of this problem by the Kargil delegation. This is totally embarrassing situation for both the regions of Ladakh. We hope the Governor will take the plea of the two delegations in all seriousness and also find a solution to their problems.
