SRINAGAR : Cold wave has intensified in Leh in Ladakh region which recorded the coldest night of the season so far after mercury further dipped and settled at minus 8.2 degree Celsius while there was no respite from chilly weather condition in the Kashmir valley.
A Met department spokesperson said weather will remain dry in all the three regions, Kashmir valley, Jammu and Ladakh regions, during the next four days.
He said the temperature in Leh in Ladakh region further dipped and settled at minus 8.2 degrees, recording the coldest night of the season so far. Yesterday, the temperature recorded in Leh was minus 7.1 degrees. However, the night temperature of the border town of Kargil was not available with the Met department.
Even though the world famous ski resort of Gulmarg witnessed some improvement in the night temperature, it was still the coldest place in Kashmir valley. Against minus 4.2 degree recorded yesterday, the temperature was minus 3.6 degree, which is still over two notches below normal.
The world famous health resort of Pahalgam after recording the coldest night of the season so far witnessed slight improvement in the night temperature as the mercury surged and settled at minus 2.9 degrees, against minus 3.3 degrees recorded yesterday.
People in the summer capital, Srinagar, woke up to a sunny morning though the weather was still chilly due to ice cold winds. The summer capital also witnessed small improvement in the temperature though it was still below normal. Against 0.6 degree recorded yesterday, it was 0.8 degree.
The spokesperson said the night temperature in Quazigund, the gateway to Kashmir valley, was somewhat same. Against 0.7 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature was 0.6 degree.
Another health resort of Kokernag and Kupwara in north Kashmir also witnessed a dip in the night temperatures. Kokergan recorded 1.8 degrees, against 2.7 degrees while Kupwara witnessed 0.4 degree, against 0.8 degree. (UNI)
