JAMMU, Sept 21: ‘Hall of Fame’ at Leh has topped the list of five Indian museums which figured in the list of best 25 museums of Asia.
The above emerged in a recent survey by ‘Trip Advisor’ which ranked the museums as per views expressed by travellers.
“Hall of Fame at Leh was voted as a “Must Visit” place by travellers in the survey,” Col S D Goswami, Defence Spokesperson here said.
He added the the museum was established in 1986 to showcase the valour, sacrifice and achievements of the Indian Army in various operations in Ladakh in addition to this it also displays the culture and heritage of the Ladakh region.
He added that over the last three decades, the Hall of Fame has become a major attraction for domestic and foreign tourists alike, having an annual footfall of over 1,50,000 visitors. Recently, a major upgradation and expansion of the Hall of Fame Complex, to include the War Memorial, War Cemetery, and Adventure Park has been completed to rededicate these monuments to the people of Ladakh.
The upgraded ‘Hall of Fame’ is a hit amongst the visitors and tourists to Leh. The War Museum, the War Memorial, the War Cemetery (Shaurya Sthal) and Adventure Park draw scores of visitor everyday. Not only does the ‘Hall of Fame’ contribute to Nation building by instilling a patriotic fervour in the civil populace, it also generates a bond between the citizens and their Army.
It is pertinent to mention here that on June 13, 2016, His Holiness Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche, Thupstan Chhewang MP Ladakh, Dr Sonam Dawa, CEC Leh and General Officer Commanding, Fire and Fury Corps reopened these upgraded monuments to dedicate them to the people of Ladakh and tourist visiting these monuments. The aim was to further heighten the viewing impact and leave an indelible impression on the visitors with a view to enhance the image of the Indian Army and soldiers of Ladakh.
