KATRA, Apr 17: A female leopard has been captured by experts from Department of Wildlife from near Katra town, the base camp of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, where it had strayed for the last few days since lockdown.
Acting swiftly on information about the wild animal straying near Katra and Tarakote track, officials from Department of Wildlife caught the leopard by setting a trap and making dog as prey.
“The wild beast that had reportedly attacked and killed a dog near Asia Chowk Katra and was on prowl since last several days, was finally trapped in a cage”, informed the Wildlife Department officials. According to some locals, this female leopard was accompanied by her cub that dodged the trap and probably went down the forest area.
Later, the female leopard was sent to Manda Zoo Jammu.
As already reported by the Excelsior, the wild beast had killed a dog near Asia Chowk Katra, last week and it was again spotted two days back at Tarakote track.
