SRINAGAR, Oct 30: Security forces today apprehended a militant associate of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) in Kupwara district.
“The suspect was detained with a loaded pistol, a magazine, six rounds, and two Chinese hand grenades concealed in a rice bag he carried on a motorcycle,” an official said.
“The operation was initiated after the Field Gathering Team (FGT) Kupwara developed specific intelligence, indicating possible militant movement from Bijhama Boniyar in Baramulla district. This information, corroborated by district commander Kupwara, prompted a Multi-Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) set up by FGT Kupwara, 15 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), and Border Security Forces (BSF) near Chhampura in the Vilgam area”, he added.
“At approximately 10:30 pm on October 29, a black Honda Livo motorcycle was intercepted. The rider, identified as Shahid Saleem Lone (27), a resident of Bijhama Boniyar, was questioned and searched, leading to the recovery of the concealed arms and explosives,” he said.

In the meantime, security forces launched a cordon and search operation across several areas in Baramulla district, including parts of Tangmarg such as Ferozepura, Pattan and Drung, following a recent terrorist attack in the Botapathri sector.
“These operations aim to locate terrorists involved in the Botapathri incident and to strengthen security across the Baramulla district,” the official said.
