LeT chief among 2 militants killed in Srinagar encounter

SRINAGAR: In a major success for security forces, Lashkar-e-Toiba chief Abu Ismail was among two militants killed in a brief encounter in the city outskirts this evening.

Official sources said that following specific information about presence of militants at Aribagh in Srinagar outskirts, a joint search operation was launched by Special Operations Group (SOG) and Army in the area.

They said as the forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there, fired at them with automatic weapons.

The security forces also retaliated ensuing in an encounter, they said, adding in the brief exchange of fire two militants were killed.

“One of the militant killed has been identified as Abu Ismail, an LeT chief,” they added.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Range Muneer Khan will address a press conference later in the evening to give details about the encounter. (AGENCIES)
