4 arrested in Shopian, arms recovered

Srinagar, Aug 19: A Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander who was involved in the killing of CRPF men in North Kashmir was shot dead by security forces along with his associate in Handwara area of Kupwara district this evening while a militant of a Jaish-e-Mohammad was killed in Shopian district today.

Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar told Excelsior that security forces shot dead two militants in Ganipora village in Kral Gund area of Handwara in Kupwara district of North Kashmir this evening.
He said that one of the militants has been identified as top commander of LeT Naseer-ud-Din Lone and another is yet to be identified. He added that Lone was involved in the killing of three CRPF men at Sopore on April 18 this year and another three in Handwara on May 4 this year.
The operation was launched after inputs about presence of militants in the village by security forces including 32 RR of Army, Police and CRPF. They cordoned off the village during which militants opened fire on them and in retaliatory fire two militants were killed including the LeT commander Lone.
A militant was killed in an encounter that broke out this afternoon. Acting on a tip-off a joint team of Police, 44 Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
As the security forces reached the spot, the hiding militants fired upon them which was retaliated triggering an encounter. One militant was killed in the gun battle while two of his associates managed to escape.
Extensive searches were later launched in the area against the two other militants but to no avail. The operation was later called off.
The killed militant has been identified as Talib Hussain Mir of Mohipora in district Kulgam. He had joined the militancy last week and one pistol was recovered at the encounter site.
Security forces recovered arms and ammunition during search operation in Srinagar.
A cordon and search operation was launched early today at Budshah Nagar, Azad Basti area of Nathpora in Srinagar after inputs to the security forces.
A search party recovered five hand grenade and a pistol during the searches of the area. A case has been registered and investigations are going on.
Security forces arrested four persons and recovered four grenades and 100 rounds of AK-47 from 4 persons in South Kashmir’s Shopian district today.
The arrests and recoveries were made by soldiers from 34 and 44 Rashtriya Rifles of Army.
The four arrested persons have been identified as Imitiyaz Ahmad Dar of Ratnipora, Parvaiz Ahmad Kumar and Sajad Ahmad Dhobi, both residents of Pinjora and Shahid Manzoor of Hillow Imamsahib in Shopian district.
Four grenades and 100 rounds of AK-47 were recovered from their possession. A case (vide FIR number 191/2020 under Section 7/25, 18,39 ULA and 307 IPC) has been registered in this regard.
