SRINAGAR, Jan 8: One militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) was killed in an encounter with the security forces in Chadoora area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district today.
A senior police officer said that they had information about presence of three militants including two Pakistanis at village Kaneera, Patalgam in Chadoora area of Budgam.
A joint team of Army, Special Operations Group (SOG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned of Kaneera Patalgam village in Chadoora area this morning. Security forces conducted house to house searches in the village and during the searches they were fired upon by the hiding militants.
Security forces retaliated leading to a fierce gun battle. The gun battle continued for several hours during which one militant was killed. The killed militant has been identified as Firdous Ahmad Mir of Pulwama.
The house in which the militants were hiding was razed by the security forces and during the searches of the debris one body was recovered. Two AK-47 rifles, two shoes and two Army uniforms were also recovered.
Sources said that the two Pakistani militants managed to escape from the encounter site. Security forces have launched searches against them.
Soon after the news about the encounter spread, the people mostly youth took to streets at Chadoora and its adjoining areas and pelted stones on security forces.
Security forces resorted to teargas shelling and used some aerial shots to disperse the protesting people. Two protesters were injured during clashes. They were shifted to Sub-District Hospital Chadoora.
In the meantime, Chadoora town observed a spontaneous shut down and authorities blocked internet services in Budgam and Pulwama districts to maintain law and order.
And militants today fired at a security forces party in Tahab area of Pulwama district without causing any damage. Security forces immediately cordoned off the area.
