Srinagar, Nov 1: Security forces today busted a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) module in Sopore area of North Kashmir and arrested its four members.
A police spokesman said here that Sopore police and 22 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) busted a module by arresting four of its members. “The module was involved in grenade attacks in Sopore”, the spokesman said.
The arrested four members of the module have been identified as Tawseef Ahmad Dar son of Mohammad Yousuf of Nowpora Sopore, Majid Gulzar son of Ghulam Muhammad Dar, Tawseef Ahmad Dar son of Bashir Ahmad Dar and Nameez Ahmad Yatoo son of Mohammad Amin Yatoo residents of Nowpora. “Two hand grenades were recovered from them”, the spokesman added.
Police said that during the preliminary investigation it was revealed that the module had lobbed grenade into the house of Showkat Ahmad Kar alias Alhaji of Nowpora last month.
Police have registered a case (FIR No 179/14 under Section 392, 120B, 34RPC & 3/5 Explosive Substances Act) in this regard and are investigating the case.
This is the third module that was busted by police in last one week in Kashmir valley and second in Sopore and arrested its eight members.
Police said that these 8 boys were recruited into the outfit to build a network of LeT operatives who were bent upon executing various militant activities in and around Sopore in criminal conspiracy with one foreign militant of LeT, Umer Khitab of Pakistan.
Police said that the module was assigned with various tasks of couriering the weapons and money, identifying the targets of security installations and arranging communication devices. They were tasked to target VIPs and election rallies.
However, the families of these 8 persons said that these boys are innocent.
Srinagar police also busted a LeT sleeper cell in the Srinagar city that were planning to carry out subversive activities in Srinagar city. Two militants have been arrested so far and large cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered from them. Three AK 47 rifle, 14 pistols and 2 wireless sets were recovered from them.
