LG announces increase in BAMS seats from 60 to 100

Bed strength to be raised up to 150 or 200

*Asks Ayurvedic College Admn to start PG courses

JAMMU, Nov 10: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today announced increase in number of seats in Ayurvedic Medical College Akhnoor from 60 to 100 and number of beds from 60 to 150 or even 200 based on requirement and occupancy.

He made the announcement while addressing a ‘Pran Pratishtha Ceremony’ of Bhagwan Dhanvantari at Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital, Akhnoor on the occasion of 8th National Ayurveda Day.
“Ayurvedic Medical seats in the Ayurvedic Medical College Akhnoor are shortly going to be increased from 60 to 100,’’ Sinha said.
He added that the administration will provide full support to the Ayurvedic College authorities for enhancement of the Ayurvedic Medical seats.
Increase will help 40 additional students to read Ayurvedic Science.
Referring to proposal of the authorities to increase number of beds in Ayurvedic Medical College Akhnoor from 60 to 100, the Lieutenant Governor said number of the beds can be raised to even 150 or 200 depending upon requirements and occupancy rate.
He wanted to know occupancy rate of the beds in the Ayurvedic College. He asked whether there is any occupancy of the beds at all.
Sinha assured all necessary support from the administration to augment the facilities at the Government Ayurvedic Medical College & Hospital and asked the College administration to start the PG Courses.
Asserting that the farmers have green gold in the form of medicinal plants, Sinha said income of the framers can go up manifold with the cultivation of such plants.
An official handout said: The Lt Governor extended his felicitations to the people on the occasion of Ayurveda Day. He said the theme of this year’s Ayurveda Day, ‘Ayurveda for One Health’, is aligned with the theme of India’s G20 Presidency ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’.
”Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the ancient wisdom of Yoga and Ayurveda for holistic well being of all is benefitting the entire humanity,” he said.
Sinha said the integration of Yoga, Ayurveda and other Indian Systems of Medicine into the mainstream of public health system to secure a healthy life for our citizens requires the undivided attention of doctors and other stakeholders.
“It is our collective responsibility to promote the best practices of traditional medicine systems and sensitize students, farmers and the public on Ayurveda to build a more resilient and sustainable healthcare ecosystem,’’ he added.
The Lt Governor reiterated the commitment of the UT administration to strengthen the preventive and holistic care infrastructure, creating a conducive environment and extending necessary support to Ayurveda Startups.
“Jammu Kashmir has the potential to lead the country as a wellness and Ayurveda hub. Efforts towards this goal can be greatly augmented with the help of Startups by young entrepreneurs and Ayurveda Graduates,” Sinha said.
He said the UT of J&K is bestowed with a wide range of medicinal and aromatic plants, which are valuable commodities.
Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Principal GMC Jammu and Dr Mohan Singh, Director, AYUSH highlighted the efforts for promoting Ayurveda and Indian Systems of Medicine in Jammu Kashmir.
Bharat Bhushan, Chairman District Development Council Jammu; Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to Lt Governor; Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Anand Jain, IGP Jammu; Sachin Kumar Vaishya, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, senior officers, faculty members and students were present.
