LEH, May 18: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retired) inaugurated Mission Khoryug in all the Government schools of Ladakh. He also launched the Mission Khoryug Handbook.
Mission Khoryug is an initiative by WWF India as per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between WWF India with the Department of School Education, Ladakh, to build knowledge of students about the biodiversity of Ladakh and actively engage with nature, promote student-led action for enhancing green activities in schools, promote student-led community service for nature, equip schools with a biodiversity map of Ladakh and other educational resources, etc.
Associate Director, Environment Education, WWF India, Neha Raghav informed the LG that Mission Khoryug aims to accelerate the movement for a greener environment to stir the imaginations of the students and to make their school, home and community more sustainable. She also informed that students would contribute to building a sustainable world and a secure future with clean drinking water and food for all and a world with biodiversity.
She further informed that all the efforts and actions directed towards building a sustainable future will be aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) focusing on healthy ecosystems and community practices towards achieving the SDGs.
Mission Khoryug Handbook emphasizes on transforming schools, homes and communities for a greener future. The Handbook also contains the biodiversity map of Ladakh.
The LG commended WWF India for its initiatives to sensitize students about the importance of adopting sustainable practices for the preservation of the environment.
Secretary to LG, Ravinder Kumar; Director, Department of School Education, Ladakh, Tsering Paldan; Team Head, Western Himalayas, WWF India, Rohit Rattan; Project Lead, Formal Schools, WWF India, Sulagna Roy and Senior Education Officer, Environment Education Division, Rigzin Dawa were present in the event.
