LEH, Nov 18: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), chaired the virtual meeting of the Governing Body of the State Health Society, UT Ladakh.
Commissioner Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Dr Vansantha Kumar Namasivayam, provided a comprehensive presentation on the Programme Implementation Plan (PIP) of the National Health Mission (NHM) for 2024-25 and 2025-26.
Key highlights included an overview of Maternal & Child Health Indicators in UT of Ladakh over the last five years, encompassing Birth Rate, Death Rate, Growth Rate, Infant Mortality Rate, Maternal Rate, CPR, Sex Ratio at Birth, and the Sex Ratio of the total population.
Dr Vasanthakumar also detailed the number of health institutes and human resources in the region, emphasizing the operation of 288 sub-centers and 33 Primary Health Centers as Health and Wellness Centers.
The Commissioner Secretary highlighted various activities carried out during the Ayushman Bhav campaign, including Mobile Medical Unit camps in remote areas, tele-consultation, and Emergency Medical Ambulances (Dial 108).
Dr Vasanthakumar outlined the proposed projects and budgets under the PIP for FY 2024-25 and 2025-26, underscoring new human resources and the approval of 28 Health and Wellness Centers by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
He urged the UT administration to allocate remaining funds for these centers.
In response, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized the need for healthcare facilities in every village, prioritizing medical infrastructure in remote areas. He called for rationalizing the posting of doctors and paramedical staff and directed officials to ensure the best Mother and Child Care, nutrition, and regular camps in rural areas.
Approval was granted for the Free Diagnostic Service in Ladakh, titled “Rin Mat Pa Stakchat,” with a commitment to equal development of healthcare facilities in the region. The LG endorsed the transfer policy of paramedical staff under NHM and advocated for intra-district transfer policies by District Health Societies.
Various leaders, including Chairman of LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Chairman of LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, and Member of Parliament, Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, offered suggestions to enhance healthcare facilities and address specific issues.
Advisor to LG/Co-Chairman Governing Body, Dr Pawan Kotwal, announced the establishment of a DNB Centre in Kargil and stressed the importance of awareness among citizens regarding central sponsored schemes.
The meeting concluded with a call for collaborative efforts to improve healthcare services in Ladakh.
