LG Ladakh enquires about health of boys injured in bomb explosion

KARGIL, Apr 17: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), today visited the District Hospital in Kargil to check on the condition of the boys who were injured in an explosion of a live bomb.
Three boys were on their way to the Astroturf Football Ground when they stumbled upon the blind bomb left over from the Kargil War, which exploded when they got too close, causing serious injuries to them. One boy succumbed to his injuries, another is out of danger, and the third is still in critical condition.
The Lt Governor offered his condolences to the family of the deceased boy and announced Rs 4 lakh compensation to the family. He also announced Rs 1 lakh each to the injured boys.
The LG Ladakh expressed his sadness over the unfortunate incident and assured the people that steps would be taken to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. He acknowledged that the blind bombs should have been destroyed earlier and informed the people about the plans to remove such dangerous ammunition from Kargil and other parts of Ladakh.
He held an emergency meeting with the concerned officials to discuss the issue and instructed the Army officials to remove the blind bombs and other dangerous ammunition from the area near the Astroturf Football Ground.
He also assured the people that the shortage of doctors and ambulances at the District Hospital in Kargil would be looked into, and a new CT scan machine would be installed at the earliest.
He also visited the site near the Astroturf Football Stadium where the incident took place and instructed the concerned officials to take necessary steps to remove the blind bombs and other dangerous ammunition from the area.
The Chairman of LAHDC Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan, was also present during the LG’s visit to the District Hospital.
