JAMMU, Mar 2: District Development Council (DDC) member from Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony today urged the Government to liberalize eligibility norms for differently-abled persons to enable them to avail benefits of several schemes launched by the Central Government.
Chairing a review meeting of the Social Welfare Department, the DDC member said that as per the norms, the differently-abled persons with 80 percent disability only are eligible for National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) while on the other hand persons with 40 percent disability are eligible for Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS). He asserted that if in all the schemes of social welfare, persons with 40 percent disability are eligible then why are they not eligible for NSAP. He sought immediate intervention of the Government to relax these norms.
The DDC member further directed field staff of Social Welfare Department (SWD) to resume touring of their respective areas of Suchetgarh and RS Pura. “The COVID pandemic is almost over and as per the latest guidelines of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) the field can resume their visits to ensure implementation of Centrally Sponsored and other schemes,” he added.
Taking notice of health issues among children, T S Tony directed the workers of Anganwadi Centres to start health checkup drives in their respective centers. He added that the drive will be conducted in coordination Block Medical Officer (BMO) R S Pura.
Tony also stressed upon the officials of Social Welfare Department to implement the Ladli Beti Scheme in letter and spirit, aiming to create a strong positive disposition towards girl child, and reverse the alarming trend of declining child sex ratio in Jammu and Kashmir. He said “We together need to put in concerted efforts to achieve the desired objective of securing the future of the girl child.”
In the meeting, officials of several wings of the Social Welfare Department were present in the meeting.
