Licenses of 7 medical shops suspended

SRINAGAR, Oct 17: Continuing with its drive of ensuring that people get quality medicines, a team of officers of Drug and Food Control Organization (DFCO) today conducted a surprise check of drug sale establishments in various areas of Srinagar city which include Qamarwari, Karan Nagar, Sanat Nagar, Rawalpora, Hyderpora and HMT.
During the drive 39 establishments (retail/wholesale) were checked. Licenses of 7 shops namely M/s Biatullah Medical Store, Qamarwari, New Feroz Medicare, New M. S. Medicate, Lutfan Medicate and Aksa Medicate of Karan Nagar, M/s Sajad Medicate Sanat Nagar and M/s Fore Way Medicate, HMT were suspended.
Medicines worth Rs. 20,000 mostly those which were contaminated by the flood water were confiscated on spot.
The exercise has been necessitated at the behest of inputs that certain vendors are indulging in sale of flood hit medicines to the end users which in all likelihood is bound to pose serious health risks to the consumers.
