SRINAGAR: Life came to halt in the summer capital, Srinagar and outskirts due to dust-storm followed by heavy rain, hailstorm and thunderstorm coupled with major traffic jam this afternoon.
Almost all roads, majority of them with big holes particularly in the uptown, were flooded with rain water, making pedestrian and traffic.
After a hot and humid day due to above normal maximum temperature on the first day of the Holy fasting month of Ramdan, weather suddenly changed in the afternoon in Srinagar and its adjoining areas.
Though weather turned pleasant, but life came to halt due to heavy rains. Dust storm followed by heavy rain and thunderstorm for about an hour, forced people, particularly riding two-wheelers and pedestrians to take shelter in shops and under some sheds.
Those driving heavy vehicles had to put on their headlights due to poor visibility. Fruits and vegetables were also damaged due to the weather. Major traffic jams on almost all routes were observed at various places. There were also reports of power failure in many areas. (AGENCIES)
