JAMMU, Dec 2: Principal Sessions Judge Poonch, Kishore Kumar has awarded life-imprisonment to a woman for committing murder of her Devrani over a trifle issue in village Buffliaz of Surankote tehsil.
According to the police case, on July 15, 2007 Javed Akhtar, wife of Parvaiz Khan was burnt alive by her Jethani namely Shafayat Akhter, wife of Javed Khan on the issue of missing of a bowl in the presence of deceased’s mother-in-law Rafia Begum, wife of Ghulam Hayder Khan, Ghulam Haider Khan, son of Bagh Ali Khan and Parvaiz Khan.
On this information, police registered a case and after completion of investigation presented challan in the court of law.
After hearing Public Prosecutor Nazir Hussain for the State whereas Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi with Advocate Mohinder Payasa for the accused persons, Principal Sessions Judge Poonch, Kishore Kumar acquitted Rafiq Begum, wife of Ghulam Haider Khan, Ghulam Haider Khan, son of Bagh Ali Khan and Pervaiz Khan, son of Ghulam Haider Khan of the charges leveled against them and convicted Shafayat Akther for the commission of offence under Section 302 RPC.
“The gravity of the offence as committed by the accused in the present case would be sufficiently avenged by imposing alternative sentence of ‘transportation of life’. It is settled principle of law that imprisonment for life and fine is a rule and death penalty is an exception for commission of offence of murder punishable under Section 302 RPC”, the Court said while awarding life-imprisonment to Shafayat Akhter, wife of Javed Khan of Buffliaz.
