Lift silt from banks of Trikuta Canal: Sukhnandan

JAMMU, Mar 25: On the complaint of the public residing on the bank of Trikuta canal that the de-silting work is not being carried out satisfactorily besides silt is being dumped on the banks before being lifted, the Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Ch. Sukhnandan Kumar accompanied by the Secretary PHE, Irrigation and flood Control visited the site and interacted with the people.
The people complained that de-silting work was not being carried out as per the requirement and the silt containing hazards substances is being dumped on the banks of the canal for days on. The public further complained that from the silt dumped on the bank foul smell emanates making it virtually difficult for the people to live in their houses.
The Minister took serious notice of the complaint and directed the Chief Engineer Ravi Tawi Irrigation Canal and the Executive Engineer concerned to immediately lift the silt from the banks and also de-silt those portions of the canal which have been left out.
The Minister also inspected the Mechanical Division South (Gandhi Nagar) and found some officials were absent and directed Chief Engineer PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control to take action against absentees.
The Minister inquired the reason for underground reservoir lying dysfunctional since more than a decade. He directed the concerned to explore the possibility of putting these reservoirs back into use. He was also informed that the bore-well constructed at the site was not used since last few months. The Minister also instructed to maintain proper hygienic conditions within and around the premises.
