Literature plays vital role in transforming society: Sukhnandan

JAMMU, Dec 7: Former Minister and MLA Marh Ch Sukhnandan Kumar today said literature plays a vital role in transformation of the society.
Addressing a function organized by Akhil Bharatiya Sahitya Parishad (ABSP) at K L Sehgal hall here today,  held in connection with commemoration Golden Jubilee of the Parishad Ch. Sukhnandan said that great epics like Ramayana and Mahabharta which have impacted our day today lives were also written by renowned scholars. He said the scholars and academicians do lot of service to the nation but he regretted that no one shows concern for their welfare.
The BJP leader said though he is a novice in the field of literature and being a farmer, he used to be concerned more for the welfare of his farmers and likes to remain amidst them every time. He said even when he was a minister he used to live in his native village which is 300 meters away from International Border so that he remains in touch with his electorate.
The BJP MLA however assured the writers fraternity that he will try to fulfill the demands putforth before him for their welfare.
In his presidential address Dr R L Shant a well known scholar said the Parishad has a long history. He expressed the hope that it will continue to take the legacy ahead.
He said the literature brings transformation in the people who are associated with it and it is also responsible for the survival of the society as a whole.
He said the society is moving forward and it is because of the literature which unites us and it is medium for an un described revolution in the society “or we can say it becomes a catalyst for social change”.
In his address Prof P N Trisal another well known scholar threw detailed light on the subject “Sahitya Drishtikaun Aur Akhil Bharitya Shaitya Parishad”. While appreciating the role of ABSP in giving an opportunity to literary persons he said simultaneously it educates and encourages people about the values and virtues of literature in one’s life.
Arvind Shah the National Executive Committee Member of ABSP and in charge of J&K State in his welcome address gave a brief introduction about the organization. He said literature is a great expression that integrates human beings from within as well as outside the world. Sheela Handoo member National Executive BJP Mahila Morcha also spoke on the occasion.
The programme was compered by Vijay Wali who also proposed the vote of thanks.
