L&L Department holds Bhasha Sammelan

Jammu, Feb 21: The Department of Linguistics and Literature, School of Humanities and Liberal Arts, Cluster University of Jammu organized Bhartiya Bhasha Sammelan today.
The event was attended by Registrar Cluster University of Jammu, Ankur Mahajan as chief guest and Om Prakash Vidyarthi eminent environmentalist and poet as special Invitee.
The event began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries followed by a welcome address by Dr. Reena Salaria, Head, Department of Linguistics and Literature, School of Humanities & Liberal Arts, Cluster University of Jammu. The concept note was delivered by Dr. Monika Sharma, Dean, School of Humanities and Liberal Arts in which she laid emphasis on the need and importance of preserving and promoting local languages of Jammu & Kashmir.
Around 40 students from the constituent colleges of Cluster University i.e MAM College, PSPS GCW Gandhi Nagar, GGM Science College, SPMR College of Commerce and GDC Akhnoor, GDC Kunjwani, GDC Bishnah, GDC Sidhra and GDC Paloura participated in the event with zeal and deliberated on the topic in their mother tongue wearing dresses representing their cultures.
The best speaker of the event was won by Shivani from GDC Bishnah and first runner up prize went to Mohd. Owais from MAM College and second runner up was bagged by Ujwal Thakur from GGM Science College.
The Adujucator of the event were Prof. Renu Nanda, an eminent Academician and Prof. Ruth K Maseih, Head Department of English,CLUJ.
Ankur Mahajan addressed the gathering and spoke about the urgent requirement to return to our native languages in order to preserve the local languages and cultures. Dr. O.P. Vidyarthi recited the poems highlighting the importance of the day and emphasized the role of young generation to carry forward the oral traditions of our heritage and culture. Dr. Neha Garg, Assistant Professor, Department of Linguistics & Literature, SHLA, delivered vote of thanks.
