LLSA, DLSA Kargil celebrate Legal Services Day

KARGIL, Nov 9: Ladakh Legal Services Authority (LLSA) and District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kargil celebrated Legal Services Day, here today.
Justice Sanjeev Kumar Judge, High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and also the Executive Chairman, LLSA graced the event from Jammu as the Chief Guest.
Malik Shabir Ahmed Principal District and Sessions, Judge Kargil delivered the welcome address and spoke on the importance of the day. In the year 1995, the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 came into force, to ensure justice, equality and access to Legal Aid regardless of their background or social status.
Justice Sanjeev Kumar Judge, in his inaugural address expressed on the importance of the day in delivering justice to marginalized section of the society and to have equal access to justice as per the various schemes included in the Legal Services Authority Act, 1987.
He also discussed upon the various provisions imbibed in our Constitution which ensures equality be it in the matter of employment or access to justice.
Spalzes Angmo, Member Secretary, LLSA addressed the gathering in native language Ladakhi and explained to the audience about the role of the National Legal Services Authority, State Legal Services Authority, District Legal Services Authority and Tehsil Legal Services Authority in access to justice.
She also spoke on the importance of the Legal Aid Defense Counsel Scheme and various others scheme.
S. Balasaheb Suse Deputy Commissioner, Kargil spoke on the occasion highlighting the role of the district administration in providing access to justice to all the citizens by providing good education, proper infrastructure, road connectivity, clean drinking water and other facility.
The event also included award of compensation to the tune of Rs. 8,50,000/- under Ladakh Victim Compensation Act.
The function was attended by the members of the BAR Association Kargil, Panel Lawyers, LADC’s, officers of police department, representatives of the Govt. departments, health and social workers, students and professors from Govt. Degree College, Kargil, teachers and students of Govt. Schools, Nambardars and members of the various villages and the Para legal volunteers.
