LMD imposes fine of Rs 3 lakh on defaulters

JAMMU, May 30: The Legal Metrology Department (LMD) realized a fine of over Rs 3 lakh from the traders for default in Jammu areas.
Official sources said that in view of coming festival season, the LMD team led by head of Enforcement Unit, Jammu Anita Sharma under the supervision of Joint Controller, Jammu conducted surprise inspection in Rehari, Janipur, Roop Nagar, Talab Tillo, Barnai and several other areas and imposed heavy fine on the defaulters.
The team inspected traders dealing with Karyana items, fruit/ vegetables, meat/ chicken, bakery items, sweets, milk products, school items, petroleum products etc. The traders were booked for violation of various provisions of the Legal Metrology. A manufacturer of edible oils from Delhi was also heavily fined. A total 3.09 lakh fine was realized from the defaulters.
