LMD imposes fine of Rs 50,000 on spare parts manufacturer

POONCH, Mar 30: Legal Metrology Department Poonch today imposed a fine of Rs 50000 on automotive spare parts manufacturer for violating the norms related to the protection of consumers’ interests.
Acting on a specific complaint by a consumer that packaged spare parts of vehicles are being sold by a particular dealer on inflated prices, the LMD officials headed by Assistant Controller, Kewal Krishan, investigated the matter and issued a legal notice to the manufacturer for violating Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.
On written assurance from the concerned firm, the Assistant Controller compounded the case and imposed a fine of Rs.50000 on the automotive spare parts manufacturer.
“It is mandatory for packer/manufacturer/importer to declare/print on each pack the name and complete address, working consumer care telephone number and email id, net contents of the commodity packed, MRP (inclusive of all taxes), month and year of packing inter-alia other mandatory declarations before offering any packaged commodity for sale in open market,” said a statement of LMD.
