LMD imposes Rs 10,000 fine on chocolate trader

JAMMU, Dec 20: Department of Legal Metrology booked a manufacturer of chocolate from Mumbai under Weights and Measures Laws and Package Commodities Rules, who flooded the market with varieties of costly chocolates without mentioning packing date.
According to Deputy Controller, Legal Metrology Enforcement, said that chocolates were packed with the statutory declaration to consume the said chocolates within 3 months from the date of packing. The date was not marked by manufacturer thereby giving opportunity to the trader to sell the same at any time, he added.
Department scrutinized the bills and found that there was more than 100 per cent margins to the trader as per marked MRP and price billed to the trader.
Accordingly Inspector Pooja Kumari directed M/s Jindal, the manufacturer to reduce the margin of profit of trader in the interest of consumers and all the deceptive packages were recalled from market for necessary rectification for the benefit of consumers, he informed.
“Rs 10000 was imposed and recovered as a composition from the defaulter”, he said, adding, that more than 100 packages were seized from the market.
