LMD imposes Rs 27400 fine

KATHUA, Mar 4: On the directions of the District Development Commissioner Kathua Jitendra Kumar Singh, a team of the Legal Metrology Department Kathua under the supervision of the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Kathua Ajay Verma and comprising of the Inspector Legal Metrology Kathua, Vicky Sharma and Inspector Legal Metrology Dayalachack  Devi Lakhanpuria  conducted intensive checking of various business establishments at Kalibari, Hatli Morh, Palli,  Kathua, Janglote Morh, Sunkhal, Parngoli, Thanger, Galak, Sanjimorh, Haripur, Londi Dayalachack and adjoining  areas.
During the inspections, a total of 28 traders were booked for violation of various provisions of J&K Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 1997 and Package Commodities Rules. Twenty two challans were compounded and a penalty of Rs 27400 was imposed on the erring traders during the month of Feb 2014.
Besides, Department directed all the traders to use only verified Weights and Measures for business transactions and display MRP, PKD, Net Contents and complete address and Consumer Care Number on the commodities to be sold in package form. The Department has also warned the unscrupulous traders to desist from using unfair trade practices to cheat the innocent consumers and also appealed to the consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing the commodities.
