JAMMU, Nov 5: Legal Metrology Department (LMD) today conducted a checking of various business establishments and realized an amount of Rs 4.3 lakh from 261 erring traders.
The checking drive was conducted on the directions of Joint Controller, Legal Metrology, VS Sambyal, by the enforcement teams of LMD in Jammu City and its outskirts.
During the drive, the teams checked various business establishments dealing with jewellery, dry fruit packages, bakery and other items of daily use and detected 261 business establishments violating different provisions of J&K Weights and Measures (Enf) Act, 1997 read with Packaged Commodities Rules.
The erring traders were detected involved in selling of deceptive packages, packages without mandatory declarations, making less weighment and overcharging from consumers. The checking teams realized a sum of Rs 4.3 lakh as composition from these erring traders.
