JAMMU, July 28: With the commencement of Festival season, the market checking team of Legal Metrology Department (LMG) conducted a surprise checking of various traders of Jammu city and its outskirts and realized a fine of Rs 23000 from the defaulters.
The drive was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Controller, Enforcement, VS Sambyal at Gujjar Nagar, Khatikan Talab, Shaheedi Chowk, Dab Karam Din and Akhnoor, where the team randomly checked various shops of meat, chicken, bakery and sweets.
During the process, about 20 traders were found violating different provisions of Jammu and Kashmir Weights and Measures (Enforcement ) Act 1997 and rules with respect to overcharging, sale of biscuits without MRP, PKD, Address, less weighing of meat, chicken and use of unverified weighing instruments in commercial transactions.
All the 20 erring traders were compounded by the Deputy Controller, Enforcement with a composition amount of Rs 23000 on the spot.
The Legal Metrology Department has advised the traders using LPG cylinders in commercial transactions to maintain and preserve the bills of their LPG consumption issued by LPG dealers to avoid any penalty.
