MENDHAR, Sept 22: Load carrier operators including  Tata Mobiles and Mini-Autos today held protest demonstration and blocked Mandhar- Jammu road for about an hour.
They were shouting slogans against the Police authorities and local administration for banning their entry into the town during the day.  They alleged that recently the police banned the entry of their vehicles in the town on the pretext of traffic congestion. They said their survival has put to the stake as they are denied to lift public goods from various shops in the town during the day. They can operate only during the day time and carry public goods and if they are denied entry then how can they operate and feed their families, they maintained.
They raised barricades on the road and disrupted the movement of vehicles from 10.30 am to 11.30 am. Later, SHO and  Tehsildar arrived there   and they assured them to take up the matter with the SDM. Then the agitating drivers along with the affected traders  moved to the office of SDM, Sher Singh where SDPO Shahid Nahim was also present.  The operators said that Police can restrict  entry of trucks/ tippers  and other heavy vehicles during the day in the town but light goods carriers should be allowed. The Administration then agreed to their request and allowed them to operate during the day with some restrictions regarding idle parking and timings especially `peak hours’.
