JAMMU, Aug 8: Four civilians were injured when residents of two villages located along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kargil district clashed over laying of water pipes but the matter was resolved with the intervention of the district administration.
Reports said that water pipes were being laid in the village Latoo, located close to the LoC in Kargil sector of Ladakh division, which was objected to by the people of neighbouring border village of Karkitchoo, who reportedly wanted that the water pipes should also be laid in their villages.
The people from Karkitchoo village marched to village Latoo and cut the water pipes being laid in their neighbouring village. The people from Karkitchoo alleged that the people of Latoo have occupied their land and they will not allow laying down of the water pipes at Latoo unless the territorial and other disputes between the two villages were resolved by the administration.
The people of two villages also clashed leading to injuries to four of them. However, the people from both the border villages blamed each other for the dispute as well as the district administration for not resolving it amicably and timely.
It is worthwhile to mention here that only few days back, the residents had marched towards LoC at Latoo but were stopped by the troops. The Army had convinced them to return to their village on the ground that the district administration would resolve the matter.
The Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, when approached for comments, said the Tehsildar and police officials were on the spot to resolve the matter.
Meanwhile, four civilians injured in the clashes have been admitted to the local hospital for treatment but their condition was stated to be stable.
