MANDI, Dec 8: Locals of Panchayat Balnai were busy these days in repairing the dilapidated road connecting Budha Amarnath with Rajpura, Balnai and Maharkote Panchayat on their own as after repeated pleas to the local administration, they found their requests falling into deaf ears and the inaction prompted them to take the matter in their own hands.
“We had no choice but to solve the issue on our own,” said Bashir Ahmed Tantray, a local of Balnai.
“The administration has been sleeping and we couldn’t wait any more. We pooled our resources and started the repair work our-self,” more locals informed.
They, with the help of local labourers, have been working tirelessly to repair the road and so far they have filled potholes, cleared debris and even spread new gravel to make the road motorable.
The road is used by thousands of people every day but remained dilapidated for a long time with potholes and cracks making it difficult for vehicles to ply over it. “We are proud of what we have accomplished,” said Mohd Afzal another local resident.
The initiative has been widely praised, with many commending the spirit of self-reliance and community service of the locals.
Locals of Panchayats Rajpura, Balnai and Maharkote have urged the DDC Poonch to take necessary steps to prevent delays in correcting any bad road in the area in future.
